Quinoa Update
I’ve been worried all year that I was growing lamb’s quarters - I planted quinoa, but lamb’s quarters is so common and looks so similar that it’s been really hard to thin out. The heads are forming on a couple of plants though, and I feel more confident now that I am (mostly) growing quinoa

Cucumbers
There was a breech in my bed where I was growing cucumbers under an insect net. This usually happens at some point. I ended up losing the rest of the cucumber plants, though I am happy with how many cucumbers I was able to harvest before then.
I planted H-19 little leaf early this year - not under cover. My Hope was that they could do that because of their supposed resisitance to bacterial wilt. They looked promising until about a week ago - when both plants succumbed to wilt. I harvested 1 single cucumber from both plants, and saved no seed.
I had also planted a cucumber grex to see if I could potentially find some that could survive the cucumber beetle & bacterial wilt plague - that was also a failure.
I plan to try some experimentation next year, but right now the strategy of covering cucumbers with insect netting still seems to be the only one that works. I was disappointed in the performance of most of the cucumber varities I grew under cover except Adam.
I just planted a couple of varities I have never grown before. Unagi and Sashimi - both are going to grow under an insect net. They are both parthenocarpic. So hopefully I can get a decent harvest of larger cucumbers this fall. I moved it to a spot that has been open since the garlic harvest, so hopefully the cucumber beetles are held off for a while.
I think the most effective solution to this would be the purchase and innoculation of nematodes in the garden. It’s approxmiately 2 acres though - but I’m thinking of ways to try to rally some people to make it happen.
